The exterior sets new standards in terms of aesthetic
design for four-door vehicles as seen in its low height and the flat roofline
that smoothly flows into the rear end. The low and graceful lines are
especially impressive when looking at the car’s side profile. The recessed
passenger compartment appears low and smoothly stretched because the window
silhouette extends deep into the C pillar. The frameless door windows are also
a design element indicative of a sporty Coupé. In addition, the elongated side
windows optimise the incidence of light to enhance the feeling of spaciousness
in the interior. The characteristic BMW Hofmeister kink that flows into the C
pillar encompasses exclusively embossed “Gran Coupe” lettering behind the glass
in the lower corners of the rear windows to denote the fascinating elegance and
personality of this new vehicle.
The interior of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé has a
driver orientation typical of the BMW brand.
The driver-focused cockpit and front passenger area are bordered by
elegantly sweeping surfaces with a harmonious connection between the front
seats and the rear. Passengers sitting in the rear will be surprised by the
generous levels of space and high level of comfort in a very stylish and
luxurious surrounding. The four-door
Coupé is a four-seater that offers generous travel comfort in the back with an
additional third rear seat which can be used for shorter journeys.
Powered by a choice of two engines with BMW TwinPower
Turbo technology, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé offers a sporty and powerful
drive experience. The six-in-line engine in the BMW 640i Gran Coupé comprises a
turbocharging system, High Pressure Injection and VALVETRONIC, twin-scroll
turbocharging. The exhaust gas pulses from each bank of three cylinders are fed
through two separate channels to the turbine wheel. This produces maximum power
of 320 hp, at 5,800 to 6,000 rpm, from a displacement of 3.0 litres allowing
the BMW 640i Gran Coupé to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
The top-of-the-line BMW 650i Gran Coupé with the
latest generation of the 4.4-litre V8 engine with its two turbochargers and
High Precision Direct Injection optimises both efficiency and response, when it
arrives in market in September this year.
Power in both engines of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé
is managed by an eight-speed sports automatic transmission. With its extremely
fast gear changes, this unit is built for sporty driving, comfortable shifting
and optimised efficiency. It is operated using the electronic gear selector on
the centre console.
The six-cylinder in-line petrol
engine in the BMW 640i Gran Coupe develops 235 kW/320 hp. The icing on the cake
of the model range will be provided by the BMW 650i Gran Coupe and its 330
kW/450 hp V8 powerplant. The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology of the new-generation
eight-cylinder unit now also includes VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing.
All the engine variants work in tandem with an eight-speed sports automatic
transmission, while measures such as the Auto Start-Stop function and ECO PRO
mode – activated using the Driving Experience Control switch – help to reduce
fuel consumption. The BMW 650i Gran Coupe will also be available with BMW
xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive.
The chassis technology built into
the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe includes a double-wishbone front axle, an integral
rear axle, Electric Power Steering and a high-performance braking system. Plus,
the Servotronic function and Dynamic Damper Control both also come as standard.
Among the items on the options list are Integral Active Steering and the
Adaptive Drive system. The BMW 640i Gran Coupé has a
power output of 320bhp with a peak torque of 450Nm. With a top speed of 250
km/h (155 mph), acceleration is from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) coming up in 5.4
seconds, while average fuel consumption is 7.7 – 7.9 liters per 100 kilometers
in the combined cycle with carbon dioxide emissions of 181g per kilometer
driven. The top-end BMW 650i Gran Coupé has a 450bhp engine with peak torque of
650Nm, capable of pushing the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in just 4.6.
The increased power again comes at the cost of economy. The 650i's Average fuel
consumption is 8.6 – 8.8 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle with carbon
dioxide emissions of 206g per kilometer driven.

The Driving Experience Control switch on the centre
console allows the driver to alter accelerator response characteristics, engine
response, the power steering characteristics, the DSC settings, the damper
characteristics and the shift characteristics of the automatic transmission. Designed with state-of-the-art chassis technology, the
BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé will delight drivers with its dynamic performance and
outstanding refinement. Highlights that come as standard include Electric Power
Steering and Dynamic Damper Control to help provide the perfect balance between
dynamics and comfort.
As with all BMW models, the 6 Series Gran Coupé
features an exclusive options list that includes active steering, comfort seats
and sports seats, active seats, seat ventilation, Exclusive Nappa leather, ceramic
applications, heated rear seats and 4-zone automatic climate control. There is
also a Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound System that offers brilliant
sound experience from every seat. Bang & Olufsen designs and manufacturers
high-end audio products and televisions and so was the perfect audio partner
for the new 6 Series Gran Coupé.
